    At about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon great crowds gathered at the bridge in South Bend to witness a foot race between Joe Perkins and Chris Mesler, for twenty-five dollars a side, to run a distance of 100 yards. Both were fat men, and the bridge trembled beneath them as they ran, Perkins coming out about thirty feet ahead.

    Great attraction of Galena on Thursday night, was a set-to with soft gloves, Marquis of Queensbury rules, in De Long's hall, between Coates and Pattee, for the entrance money. It was a friendly bout, but excitment ran high, and a large amount of money was bet by the friends of either party on the result. The winner, it is understood, will challenge the champion of Deadwood, and if he should, as much as we dislike prize fighting, we will feel it to be a duty to accept and take the conceit out of him.
